About the restaurant: Market’s menu celebrates American classics, served in a stone-walled 1890's-era building on St. Helena’s main corridor. Ernesto Martinez (Auberge du Soleil, CIA Greystone) helms the kind of restaurant you’d want to go to weekly for its surprisingly reasonable prices, fun neighborhood feel, attentive service and, especially, quality of food. The name reflects a desire for marketplace freshness and high-caliber ingredients.

Food & Drinks: Accordingly, consider dishes like fried calamari, fennel and green beans, or ling cod battered in Champagne with house-made tartar, and hanger steak with fingerlings, wild mushrooms and deep port reduction. From the raw bar there’s hamachi tostaditas; a hulky burger comes with “very adult” macaroni and cheese with Hobbs’ bacon; a more refined halibut pairs with morels and favas. Finish with the butterscotch pudding or DIY s’mores. Categories on the savvy wine list read like the classifieds: “full bodied, rich and round” and “low grip, high pleasure.”
