Meat Up BBQ Restaurant Review:
A corner of a strip mall in Placentia may seem like an unlikely place for a successful food truck to hit the brakes and set up a brick-and-mortar operation. But the crew behind the popular mobile kitchen The Viking Truck has landed at such a spot, and they’re making it work with a casual, unfussy joint built on eclectic barbecue and local craft beer. Groups of guests flock to the bar to grab whatever regional suds are on tap and take in a game, although Ducks fans should be advised they’re entering Kings country. They can pair up whatever brew they partake of with a heaping starter like the smoked wings or the indulgent barbecue-rubbed fries topped with pulled pork and mac ‘n’ cheese. Barbecue here is an equal opportunity situation; the usual suspects are represented, from the Carolina-inspired pulled pork to the St. Louis-style spare ribs that tend to sell out by night’s end. There are several between-bread options like a pulled-pork Cuban or a chopped brisket sandwich, and those who want some greens with their meat can order up a salad topped with chicken, tri-tip or carnitas.
