Mia's Restaurant Review:

Part of Johnny Carrabba’s restaurant empire in Upper Kirby, Mia’s is the more casual cousin of Grace’s and the original Carrabba’s, located right around the corner. A country kitsch and kid-friendly atmosphere abides; guests order at the counter and servers bring the food to the table. Expect big portions of burgers, fried chicken tenders with jalapeño gravy and barbecue. Lil’ Red is the name of the smoker, which is fired up early in the day and stoked with oak and pecan wood to create the authentic barbecue flavor in the pork shoulders, racks of ribs and whole chickens that smoke for hours until the meat falls off the bones. There are salads and the obligatory tacos, too, and we also like the meatloaf platter with green beans and mashed potatoes just like grandma made. A decent beer and wine list for adults and shakes made with Blue Bell ice cream to delight the kids are good bets --- and there's plenty of iced tea poured as well. Indulge in a warm peanut butter cookie or a free soft-serve ice cream for kids of all ages.
