Northside Social Coffee & Wine Restaurant Review:
Its name conveys much about this Wilson Boulevard destination: it’s mostly about meeting and greeting pals, strangers, and long-lost lovers. On the other hand, a foodie would say it’s really all about big sandwiches, pastries and cookies, and brimming hot cups of designer coffee. Don’t want a caffeine buzz? Simply concentrate then on the food. Start the day with a hearty breakfast of steel-cut Irish oatmeal, a breakfast sandwich with bacon and farm-fresh eggs, scones or a vegetable-rich, cheesy quiche. From midday until closing (except for weekends, when breakfast goes to early afternoon), look for healthful salads and sandwiches, artisanal cheeses, and as many pastries and cookies as your diet allows. For lunch we recommend the roast leg of lamb sandwich with pecorino cheese on focaccia and a crackly, minty chocolate cookie. The upstairs area becomes a wine bar after 5 p.m.
