Dealing in fresh seafood, The Red Snapper’s kitchen turns out credible and satisfying, if not flamboyant or wildly creative, dishes. Among the appetizers, winners are the shrimp rémoulade and the crab meat and cream spinach in pastry. Oysters Rockefeller are properly prepared, topped with hollandaise sauce; we prefer them to the Oysters Sara, which plates three fried oysters on a bed of fresh spinach and daubs them with hollandaise sauce. Seafood gumbo is thick and flavorful. Among the myriad snapper preparations, go for the Siam (sweet-and-sour with crab meat and mushrooms) and the house signature ginger version, with shrimp, mushrooms and ginger sauce. But flounder amandine isn't to be ignored. A few landlubber selections --- chicken and steak --- are available. Dessert is made in-house, and the one to target is the moist coconut cake, its toasted coconut coming from freshly grated coconut meat. What a shame that this food is not supported by a better wine list, wine glasses and service. So we suggest you bring your own, and your own glasses, as corkage is just $15.
