Silo Restaurant Review:

While seminal Silo has endured several changes in the kitchen over the years, standards such as the chicken-fried oysters remain. Spicy beef lettuce wraps are also old favorites; if anything, they’ve improved. True, we’re beginning to cloy of shrimp and grits on menus hereabouts, but somehow manage to tolerate the equally omnipresent seared tuna with a Szechuan peppercorn crust. But our current favorite is lunchtime’s fresh ricotta gnocchi with braised duck ragoût: the gnocchi are pillowy, the ragoût punchy. For dessert, we suggest a chocolate mousse. Yes, it sounds ordinary. No, it’s not. The wine list isn't large, but it's carefully considered. Though adding to a sense of camaraderie, we find the tables a little close together at second-story Silo, so it’s best to go with a defensively large group. Singles might feel more comfortable at Nosh downstairs, where the menu is limited but inventive cocktails and a good beer list prevail.
