South Restaurant Review:

At South, pinewood dinettes, white walls and a chalkboard menu set the scene, beckoning visitors to come as they are. The draw is the food, and diners would be hard pressed to find a menu less decadent this side of the Mississippi. The shining star, hands down, is the fried chicken, moist and tender on the inside, the crispy coating delicate yet boldly spiced. Other hits are the fried hushpuppies with green tomato jam, the blackened swordfish with black-eyed peas and the chef's burger with leek-shallot jam and bacon confit. Desserts include the requisite pecan pie as well as a banana-pineapple spice cake with cream cheese frosting. Wash it all down with sweet tea, a craft brew or a local wine.
