This lively gastropub is part of the downtown dining scene in San Rafael. Enter through the partially enclosed beer garden to the bright space that includes two levels for eating and drinking, a vertical plant wall, small game room and interesting liquor shelf on pulleys. The menu has a farm-to-table sensibility that pairs well with brewmaster Larry Berlin’s well-crafted suds. A wood oven turns out pizzas, meatballs, seasonal vegetables and more. Bites and plates meant to be shared range from tuna poke to a bucket of drunken clams and mussels. A daily market salad is composed of what is found at the farmers market and specials might bring a plentiful paella. Order a flight of beers and a pesto pizza and go shoot some pool, then wander out to the beer garden and watch the world go by.
