Tin Shed Restaurant Review:

Literally a tin shed, this center for Portland's sustainable movement sits in the thick of the Alberta Arts District and features big plates of organic counter-cultural comfort food. The best place to eat is on the covered patio heated by an outdoor fireplace in the winter (blankets available) and not in the cramped interior. Waits are common --- always for weekend brunch, but often even at a "slacker" breakfast hour of say, 11 a.m. But chill and pour a cup of free coffee served in vintage ceramic mugs. Your patience will be rewarded. Vegetarian curry features sweet potatoes, kale, mushrooms and tofu in a creamy coconut curry sauce. If you can't decide, try the "everything nice" sampler with a potato cake, scrambled egg, sweet potato brioche french toast, fruit compote, and your choice of breakfast meats or vegan sausage. Lunch offers a line-up of burgers, salmon, and pork and biscuits. Stick with items such as the "heartless artichoke" sandwich loaded with artichokes, garlic, Parmesan, roasted red peppers and melted pepper jack cheese, or one of the savory curries. Kids are welcomed with an affordable children's menu, and there's even a menu for dogs --- your canine companion may dine with you on the covered patio.
