Urban Farmer Restaurant Review:

This Philly steakhouse upends the leather banquette stereotype and focuses instead on local ingredients and sustainability. Housed on the first floor of the swanky Logan hotel, Urban Farmer shares its boutique aesthetic with mix and match upholstery and oversize wicker lighting fixtures. While the ambience conjures up what could only be a city dweller’s fantasy of farm life, the proceedings are still very much an expense account affair. A raw bar proffers oysters, caviar service and sampler plates. Dinner can then segue into Wagyu carpaccio with Himalayan salt or a homemade charcuterie board with house pickles and preserves. For the main event, the richly savory 18-ounce bone-in 1855 New York strip steak cultivated in Pennsylvania demonstrates why provenance matters. Still, there’s a refreshing bit of whimsy here, especially in the sides --- the mac and cheese is studded with cured tomato and topped with brioche crumbs and a twice-baked fingerling tart cleverly remixes the loaded potato. For dessert, try the pear soufflé with spiced chai anglaise or the deconstructed “float” with root beer sorbet. The wine list features more than 250 bottles and an emphasis on French and Californian wines while the house cocktails highlight fun touches like pepper jelly and butter pecan amaro.
