Versailles Restaurant Review:

Prices are low at this chain of noisy, hipster-filled Cuban restaurants, and the décor is decidedly nondescript. Still, prepare to wait for a table, as Versailles has become one of L.A.’s most popular places for Cuban cuisine, which richly blends Spanish, African and Caribbean traditions. The menu is extensive, but the lines are largely due to the restaurant’s signature dish: the garlic-drenched roasted chicken, which is served with sweet raw onions (grilled on request) and fried plantains over white rice. Other classic plates include fried yucca, pork chops marinated in lime with smoked garlic sauce, shrimp in a saffron yellow rice, and a sirloin steak sandwich on crunchy bread with tomatoes. Cuban flan and tres leches cakes are both satisfying desserts, and though there are a few beers and wines, stick with the homemade sangría.
