Ye Olde College Inn Restaurant Review:

Operating continuously since 1933, Ye Olde College Inn still innovates and attract crowds. Sky-high ceilings, murals of iconic local spots and eclectic lighting fixtures make this a funky yet slightly upscale place. Big portions and reasonable prices keep it going, and a few more complex dishes are available as well. Gargantuan onion rings, appropriately greasy burgers and home-style hot plates are the leaders of the pack, while baked Gulf fish with crawfish is a lighter alternative. Fried green tomatoes and a shrimp rémoulade po' boy are worthy options, as is the highly original oyster, Havarti and bacon po’ boy. Pair a cold beer with your overstuffed sandwich. Choose from a respectable beef brisket and a standout slow-cooked lamb shank. If you thought you’d seen it all when it comes to desserts, how about a fried bread pudding po’ boy? Proprietor John Blancher also owns the adjacent bowling alley-music club Mid-City Lanes Rock’N’Bowl. Sometimes he offers free passes to the evening's show with the purchase of an entrée at College Inn, so dinner here can be just the start of a rocking evening. Be sure to visit the restaurant’s adjacent urban farm, from which many of its fresh ingredients are procured.
