![]() : B&D Ice house was a fifty-year institution until its closing in 2010 --- just as the action was heating up on the Southtown-King William corridor. But the aging ice house has been resuscitated as a hip barbecue joint by entrepreneurial chef Jason Dady and Steve Newman, bearded beer guy turned restaurateur whose popular Friendly Spot beer garden is right across Alamo Street. Dady’s Two Bros. BBQ Market was the inspiration for the new format, and the place hit the ground running with crusty-tender ribs, beautifully barked brisket, and snappy sausage, all of which is smoked in about the one new thing that was added to the old joint: a classic barbecue pit with a few picnic tables, as there’s limited indoor seating. B&D now officially stands for the Beard & Dady, and it's the only place for real barbecue for miles. The smoked turkey is worth a taste, although we would avoid the often over-smoked chicken thighs, and we don’t find much of interest in the slaw. Diners can be excused for not trying the sandwiches; we never seem to get there either. |
