THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Back Bay Brewing Company Restaurant Review:

Somewhere along the way people got the idea that brewpubs could justify their existence with not much more than some suds brewed on premises. Using that formula, Back Bay Brewing Company has been a champ for years---ever since head brewer Tod Mott began cranking out clean, slightly hoppy, robustly flavored ales. Mott’s wares aside, we’ve enjoyed many a visit solely on the merits of the airy, darkly wooded downstairs barroom and the straight-from-the-set-of-Friends couch formations upstairs. Since firing up the stove a year ago, chef Jim Casey has given the well-heeled fans of this primely located nightspot one more reason to congregate. His menu is a well-orchestrated program of updated pub grub and forward-looking global cuisine that outclasses most of the competition. Burgers come with a killer onion jam, fried calamari with a sesame-scallion-chili dipping sauce; game is featured in various mutations such as a sweet and sassy buffalo meatloaf and an apricot-glazed antelope salad. If you’re not going to settle for bottled beer, why settle for shoddy food?
