Bagatelle, New York, NY

Bagatelle Restaurant Review

: Situated in the heart of the painfully Euro-trendy Meatpacking District, Bagatelle looks like it's an old mainstay. In fact, this is Bagatelle 2.0; its former incarnation was a few blocks away. The more spacious restaurant still has a proclivity for debauchery as the see-and-be-scene crowd flock here to get wild, whether it's a weekend brunch or Tuesday dinner. For this reason, the food wouldn't need to be stellar, but chef Sébastien Chamaret (who has logged time at La Belle Epoque in Versailles and Daniel in New York) has a handle on all things edible. Foie gras sliders or the truffle loaded gnocchi are a great place to start. Move on to steak au poivre, striped bass baked in banana leaf or pan-seared duck. Chicken isn't usually the most exciting dish on a menu, but here it's done right: roasted and doused with truffles. Desserts include crème brûlée and dark chocolate mousse. The wine list, while pricey, includes some nice French selections by the glass. During brunch, indulge in Nutella french toast or a crab croque monsieur crowned with an egg.
