THIS ESTABLISHMENT HAS CHANGED NAMES In the scheme of things it would seem that one more Italian restaurant is pretty much more of the same. This is not the case here. Ballo's menu features cutting-edge Italian creations that go far beyond the norm, delivered from the folks behind Rosebud. Yes, there are some traditional dishes (the Parmigiana family, for example) but many of the selections here are draped in pizzazz and sauced with satisfying substance. We like Mama's meatballs, the wood-burning oven pizzas, the veal Milanese, and the orecchiette with rapini and sausage. The separate menu for antipasto freddo offers a first-rate selection of cured meats, imported Italian cheeses and roasted vegetables. Service is informed and professional. The wine list really needs to be bolstered, though, if Ballo is to become a serious contender in the Italian family of Chicago restaurants.
