THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bar Angeles Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant & décor: When Friends & Family Hospitality (Horse Thief BBQ, Café Birdie) opened Sunset Junction-adjacent Bar Angeles, it nailed the laconic Eastside neighborhood vibe without pretension, and locals have ensconced themselves from the start. Giant storefront windows frame a spare, lofty, no-frills industrial space; white globe pendant lamps glow from exposed rafters, offset by penny tile and concrete floors. Bearded hipsters swipe their phones perched in the window, and a younger Silver Lake crowd swells around the main bar that’s well-stocked with amaros.

Likes: Lively, unpretentious neighborhood vibe; enticing cocktails.
Dislikes: Oversalted dishes.

Food & Drinks: Chef Joey Booterbaugh (Café Birdie) created the casual bar menu of seasonal plates and crowd-pleasing pizzas. A burrata with Brussels sprouts, pine nuts and currants is generally pleasant, though we found it oversalted. The cheeseburger is sturdy and satisfying. Everyone in the room is eating the pizzas; our pick is the squash blossom pie with white sauce and a baked egg. Beignets satisfy a sweet tooth. Look for a smart, casual wine selection that features the likes of a Sardinian Vermentino and Lambrusco on tap. There’s beer and cider, and very good craft cocktails. The “Paper Roses” mixes mezcal with Damiana flower liqueur, lime and cava rosé for something a bit special.
