THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bar Milano Restaurant Review:
Jason and Joe Denton, the brothers behind humble favorites 'ino and 'inoteca, have added this chic, Milan-styled eatery to their casual duet. Despite the “Bar” moniker, the restaurant features a scene and cuisine elevated enough to compete with the other upscale Italians. Marble walls set a lush tone (while unfortunately amplifying acoustics), and the mod-minimal furniture, vaulted ceilings and wine lockers are a far cry from the rusticity of their other venues. But one commonality all three spots share is attention to detail, a Denton specialty, which certainly translates to the swankier venue, starting with the painstakingly crafted cocktails. A frothy whiskey sour, for example, arrives in a heavy-bottomed, hand-blown tumbler with a delicate glass swizzle stick. The kitchen, too, pays heed to the fine points, with a radicchio and fennel bed balancing the smoke of generously charred octopus and a rabbit terrine dotted with crisp carrots and artichokes, a clever play on the animal’s diet. Sea urchin enriches a fragile scallop carpaccio laced with Meyer lemon; braised osso buco-style veal fattens up slim pockets of ravioli; and tender cuttlefish and razor clams lend a lovely briny touch to pici pasta. Most refreshing, however, is the absence of attitude.
