: Barrio Café owner chef Silvana Salcido Esparza launched another hot-spot in the communal culinary mecca that is The Yard. This is street café dining with upscale flair, balancing boisterous Mexican music with a chic setting of brick, natural tree branch chandeliers, a long, raw wood communal table and a happening bar overlooking the compact kitchen. This is Esparza all the way, showcasing regional dishes like Mayan-style cochinita pibil pork marinated in achiote and sour orange, wrapped in a banana leaf and slow-roasted to tenderness. There are nearly two dozen taco options, plus tortas, burritos and mollettes (savory topped toasts). Another bonus: Breakfast is served all day. Don't miss the traditional huevos rancheros or the torrejas, a marvel of bolillo bread cooked french toast style and served with butter, piloncillo syrup and jalapeño-cured bacon. To drink: tequila, in a rainbow collection. |
