THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Basilico Restaurant & Wine Bar Restaurant Review:
Basilico's Roman-born owners sought to create an authentic Italian dining experience that evokes a cozy family kitchen. They've succeeded. This beautiful dining room is a joy to enter, from the friendly service to the comfortable banquettes. Chef Paul Ornstein uses regional Northwest ingredients to capture the magic of Roman cuisine. The trademark course here is the antipasti fritti, an ever-changing array of fried appetizers clad in a light and crispy batter, such as saffron risotto balls, stuffed olives or succulent calamari. The pastas, risotto and gnocchi are lovingly prepared, home-style of course, though sometimes suffer from inconsistencies. The entrées are solid offerings ranging from a flavorful veal scaloppini with capers, artichokes and lemon; grilled lamb chops with tender new potatoes; and a daily fresh fish selection. The wine list is quite dependable, filled with good, affordable choices. Top it all off with the ultimate Italian comfort food: fried bombette served with chocolate dipping sauce.
