This garden café is so pleasing to the eye, it's a shame the food doesn't live up to the ambience. Still, it's worth a visit just to bask in the sunlight of the back room, which overlooks the colorful Gardens of Bammel Lane. Such a sunny disposition makes this a favorite for ladies who lunch. Lighter lunch options include chicken salad in a pineapple, farfalla pasta primavera salad with goat cheese, and shrimp and spinach quiche. Favorite entrées are the blue corn-crusted snapper, with avocado and mango salsa; a grilled chicken breast stuffed with spinach, mushroom and goat cheese and drizzled with a tomato-vodka sauce; and the filet of beef, stuffed with artichokes and topped with a mushroom peppercorn sauce. Basil's redeems itself even more with dessert, which features an array of tempting treats, from orange-flavored crème brûlée to white and dark chocolate mouse cake to the local favorite, mud pie.
