Beach Chalet Restaurant Review:
The draw here is not the food, nor the notable house-made microbrews. Instead, it is the spectacular 180-degree view of the waves crashing on Ocean Beach. The vintage beachside building does triple duty as a historic site and two restaurants: Beach Chalet upstairs and more casual Park Chalet brewpub downstairs with outdoor seating on Golden Gate Park. The foyer’s small museum features a written history of the park and a collection of restored Depression-era murals. Arrive during daylight hours for the best views. As for the menu, guests can nibble on snacks and appetizers such as buttermilk fried calamari or baked Pacific oysters. Daily specials augment soup and salads, and dishes like a Black Angus New York steak or spinach ricotta gnocchi, and seafood ranging from Idaho rainbow trout filets with lemon beurre fondue to grilled Atlantic salmon. In addition to the aforementioned beers, libations comprise lemonades, cocktails (Sunset Cosmo blends vodka, triple sec and pomegranate) and wines.
