THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Becco d'Oro Restaurant Review:
Opened in 2000 on the ground floor of the Radisson Hotel, just one block off tony Michigan Avenue, Becco d'Oro occupies space that has been the home of more restaurants than pigeons on a statue. However, this golden beak could easily turn out to be an important Italian restaurant, one that fits into the same class as, say, Coco Pazzo. It's expensive but with a bit of splitting, the experience is a good one. Typical antipasti on the stylish seasonal menus are carpaccio with black truffles and puff pastry stuffed with shrimp, caramelized garlic and melted Gorgonzola. Tender, freshly made gnocchi sparkle in a changing array of sauces. The lush wild mushroom risotto also deserves kudos. For secondi, consider sea bass with fresh artichokes or the breaded veal chop over braised romaine. A pleasant way to end a meal here is the simple apple tart.
