![]() : This bustling Belgian brasserie from Adriano Paganini (Beretta, Lolinda, Starbelly) features affordable interpretations of Belgian, French and German standards. The sprawling interior is welcoming and comfortably European, replete with gas lamps, warm woods and cherry leather seats. Executive chef Freedom Rains’ (Incanto) wood fire grill services a menu heavy with tantalizingly smoky steaks, chops and sausages. Lighter gems include a spongy beer-battered rock cod with malt vinegar aïoli, pan-roasted mussels in a savory whitbier broth and a delightfully unfettered spätzle with braised cabbage. A flight of Belgian beer floats headlines the dessert menu. Bar manager and cicerone Ryan Murphy has compiled more than 70 Belgian and craft American beers and ciders, accessibly indexed by their flavor profile (hoppy, fruity, sour). Theme-appropriate cocktails and a simple, California-heavy wine list round out the full bar. Despite seating for 130, reservations for the restaurant proper are highly advised. |
