Berta's Latin American Cuisine Restaurant Review:
Berta's features a long list of cuisines from various Latin American countries on the well-researched menu, so namesake owner/chef Berta Utreras’ food goes beyond the Old Town margarita-and-fajita tourist norm. We like to take a culinary trip down the continental coasts with Salvadoran pupusas, Columbian tostones (plantains double-smashed and fried), Argentinean chimichurri steaks and Chilean beef and raisin empanadas. We also enjoy Columbian arepas and Guatemalan pork casserole. The Spanish-Caribbean fricassée del pollo is an aromatic stew with chicken, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, peas, raisins, cumin, onions, wine, cilantro and green olives. Vegans will enjoy the quinoa salad or mango-avocado salad with jícama and red onion in a cilantro dressing. Try the Olinda pudding for dessert, or perhaps the flan.
