Bertha's Restaurant Review:

If only for the décor and atmosphere, one should not miss this tavern-eatery. As you step inside through a narrow passage, you are immediately immersed into the authentic ambience of Baltimore’s maritime past. You don't need much imagination to see in the darkness of the rooms the ghosts of the courageous seafaring adventurers smoking their pipes and sipping their pints of ale. The pièce de résistance at Bertha's is the mussels. They are steamed, but what makes them different is the accompanying butter in which various complements of your choice are added, such as garlic, capers, basil, scallions, spinach, anchovies, tomato and mustard. Or try the seafood entrées, especially the shrimp Maurice (broiled with honey, lemon, garlic, butter and sherry, and served over rice) or the creamy shellfish Royale over toast points. Definitely don’t miss the soft-shell crabs in season.
