![]() : The Bessinger family has a monopoly on classic 'cue joints in the Palmetto State, and this West Ashley restaurant has ruled since 1960. The method of pit-roasting meats over a wood fire has been handed down from father “Big Joe” to sons, and delivers a plateful of smoky tenderness whether pork, beef or chicken. Traditional sides include such Southern specialties as collards, fried okra and a savory hash served over rice, the latter a hallmark of South Carolina barbecue. The menu also features all the usual family friendly items, and sweets like banana pudding and peanut butter pie. In a hurry? There's a drive-thru as well. |
