: Ernie Els is a former number one golfer in the world turned winemaker turned restaurateur, and you would expect that his authentic South African steakhouse would be, like he, a force to be reckoned with. But Big Easy Winebar & Grill, anchored at the billion-dollar mixed-use project Brickell City Centre, disappoints, especially considering the prices. However, you won't find superb wine from Els’ very own label in other nearby places, and it is what makes the restaurant a draw for wine lovers. And if you are going to dine here, there's a handful of worthy dishes: pork belly popsicles, fried green tomatoes, chili-coffee rubbed pork flatbread, Brussels sprouts with bacon marmalade, roasted cauliflower with tahini and sumac, and a Cape Malay seafood pot. Do opt for the desserts as well, which feature a Cape Dutch version of tres leches and Kahlúa and whiskey ice cream milkshakes. |
