THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Big Shirley's Restaurant Review:

BIG SHIRLEY'S IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED. Situated in the restaurant-starved Treme, this sharp-looking neighborhood restaurant is named for part-owner Michael Dummett's late mother. Her thing was the love you got as much as the food you received, and that's what I'm trying to bring to the restaurant, explains Dummett. So far the love you receive here is a bit more heartwarming than the food---everything was lukewarm on an early visit, the chicken wings were fleshy and the meatball sandwich dry. But with a seasoned chef at the helm, as well as a large early contingent of regulars (including Mayor Ray Nagin), it's bound to improve with age. For now, check it out for the integrated locals' scene and the barbecue.
