THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Biga Restaurant Review:

While Neapolitan pizza has been all the rage in Philadelphia for years, the suburbs sorely lacked a structured crust to call its own --- until the arrival of Sean Weinberg’s Biga. The Bryn Mawr eatery occupies a funky, urbane space that is casual enough to welcome toddlers and their more discerning parents. Colorful murals and mod metal chairs offer a bright antidote to the run of the mill pizzeria. Meanwhile, the carefully crafted pies, small plates and salads give a contemporary spin to Italian traditions without completely bastardizing them. Think wood-roasted portobello mushroom with truffled ricotta and spiced pistachios, pesto-spiked arancini and rigatoni with braised chicken ragù. Pizzas include the untouchable classics like margherita and marinara, in addition to those with fun topping combinations like Homeslice (sausage, pecorino and broccoli rabe) and The Kingdom (bacon, beer-braised onions and scamorza). Desserts keep it simple with gelato, sorbet and a seasonal fruit crostada. On the beverage side, Biga stocks an impressive list of draft beers and ciders (growlers are available to go) as well as several refrigerated cases full of drafts and bottles.
