Southern chef Sarah Simmons has put down some roots on the Lower East Side after hosting a rotating roster of chefs in NoLIta with City Grit. Some City Grit favorites made the menu here, thankfully. While you peruse the beverage offerings, enjoy a seasonal vegetable tart (tomato in fall, ramp in spring) along with deviled eggs with a kicky dehydrated sriracha crisp on top. Champagne is the grand dame of the drinks list. In an approachable manner, each section's styles are given a little description, to take some of the intimidation out of the process of ordering something new and slightly pricey, as (good) Champagnes tend to be. Enjoy the buttermilk fried chicken (available à la carte or with the "Celebration Supper" prix-fixe) with a basket full of biscuits and jalapeño cornbread. Among the other sides, the crispy potato salad is best. For dessert, the banana pudding with salted shortbread comes in a petite Mason jar.
