Black + Blue steakhouse features classic Chicago style with a vibrant, contemporary flair and hints of upscale 70s "Playboy Mansion vibes." A walk-in meat locker with wall-filling Himalayan pink rock salt blocks sets the stage and makes no bones about this spot's culinary leanings. Choose one of three dining levels: the main floor; another up a flight towards the soaring ceiling; and a third, an open-air space or The Roof (accessed by a glass-walled private elevator, The Roof, with its own kitchen, operates almost as a separate entity). The second level offers quieter tables and booth seating, but you’ll catch the 70s and 80s music soundtrack from anywhere in the room. All locations feature exclusive Double R Ranch USDA Prime and Japanese Wagyu steaks. Begin with oysters Rockefeller and finish with bananas Foster, a tableside performance that tastes better than it looks on the plate. A variety of sides is available ranging from Black + Blue fries with spicy tomato aïoli to Brussels sprouts with lemon, capers and Parmesan. The "loaded" baked potato takes the easy route, placing everything onto one plate and baking it. Something that’s not do-it-yourself, however, is the Caesar salad, also served tableside. Classic cocktails are almost required, or match your steak with an obscure Sicilian wine or a California Cab from the extensive wine list. A sizable selection of large format red wines is a guaranteed showstopper. Service is knowledgeable, professional and friendly.
