: The Blue Room opened in 1991 and has continued its course despite several changes of ownership. The intimate spot maintains its jazzy vibe despite its industrial-park surroundings in the heart of Kendall Square. Dine at copper-topped tables or ensconced in one of the wooden booths with views of the open kitchen; a tiny bar is home to one of the most adventurous yet food-friendly wine lists in town --- which is moderately priced to boot. Executive chef Jorge Lopes offers an inventive menu that sources local vegetables and farm-raised meats and also has a flair for the progressive. Start off with a lamb kebab with kohlrabi and mint before moving on to a Verrill Farm beet salad. Grilled shrimp and chorizo gets a scotch bonnet marinade. Try a house vodka drink infused with raspberry, ginger, vanilla and lemon paired with the fava bean falafel with pickled cabbage, red onion and tahini. The famed Sunday brunch is likewise vibrant. Finish with a house-made sorbet or "one perfect cheese" with flatbread and fruit. |
