This cozy Oceanside eatery is home to chef Alfred Sheik and his Asia-fusion chalkboard menu. The kitchen may be tiny, but Sheik is creative. The playful, constantly rotating food line-up includes bites like pulled pork and cream cheese crispy rolls or curry potato short rib croquettes. Fish tacos may involve tender yellowtail with cabbage slaw and bacon bits, while such specials as Thai chili, lime and ginger fish ‘n’ chips pair nicely with a Ballast Point brew. Fried rice with sausage, teriyaki wings or tempura wild mushrooms are other tasty items. Dessert appears as chocolate egg rolls or fried ice cream with strawberry Asian pear compote. The service is low fi yet spot on, and the locals --- from surf and skate punks to families --- keep coming back.
