Bread & Tulips Restaurant Review:
Bread & Tulips presents rustic Italian cuisine underneath the Hotel Giraffe in NoMad. After heading down the stairs from the street-level entrance, patrons will find a pleasant and interesting space with exposed brick and wood, a bar, communal table, round leather booths and a semi-private chef’s table. Start off with “spuntini” (snacks) like house-cured olives (also available fried and stuffed with sausage) and fried artichokes before moving on to antipasti and salads. Generous shavings of Pecorino di Fossa cap off the Tuscan kale salad with Brussels sprouts, agrodolce currants, walnuts, lemon juice and organic olive oil, while grilled octopus is served simply with legumes and Fresno peppers. Housemade pastas include pappardelle with braised leg of lamb, tomato and Parmigiano, and the Modena brick oven turns out pizzas with toppings like Brussels sprouts, pancetta, mozzarella, caramelized onions and pistachios. The wine list has an Italian accent but also has offerings from France, South America and California.
