Bronwyn Restaurant Review:
Bronwyn in Somerville’s Union Square pays homage to T.W. Food chef/owner Tim Wiechmann’s wife. This casual sister restaurant to the upscale Cambridge establishment features all things beer, brats and wurst. Wiechmann has fun with his German roots creating an authentic Eastern European menu of pretzels with horseradish mustard, pierogis, knish and potato pancakes. Take a taste test of Germany with a giant wurst platter of currywurst, kielbasa, bratwurst, bierwurst, zungenblutwurst (a daring combination of blood, tongue and pork) and knacker (smoked beef and pork). We recommend the jagerschnitzel, a flavor packed dish of tender pork schnitzel and braised red cabbage topped with toasted walnuts. If you have the time, don’t miss the giant haxe, a two-pound, bone-in juicy pork shank that takes 20 minutes to cook. It arrives skin-on with a generous portion of roasted potatoes and sauerkraut. The side of pickled eggs with Dijon mustard and chives is a must. During the warmer months, be sure to head outside to the lively biergarten. If you don't fill up on beer and sausages, you might have room for the schokoladenmousse, a dessert of chocolate, rum, preserved pears and cinnamon.
