Buvette Restaurant Review

: Jody Williams, who has been the top toque at a small handful of West Village Italian eateries (Gusto, Gottino, Morandi), goes mostly Gallic at her rustic restaurant tucked away down a charming, tree-lined street. The menu leans toward comfort food, which is fine, especially when it’s done in such a satisfying way, as in the cauliflower gratin laced with Gruyère. Williams doesn't put any spin on the coq au vin --- it’s just like the kind you might eat in a casual Parisian bistro. But the best of Buvette’s offerings might be its charcuterie: oxtail marmalade, foie gras mousse and rabbit confit all conspire to bring you back again. Wash it all down with a glass of wine from the illustrated wine list, which has some nicely priced bottles from around France. French wines by the glass are a specialty.
