THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cafe China Restaurant Review:
Café China, on Inman Square's restaurant row, is run by Charlie and Carol Krocher, a half-Swiss, half-Chinese couple. The result is a natural blend of Eastern and Western traditions that loses something in translation---yet gains something, too. We find the mixed heritage endearing and at times winning, if hardly authentic. The carpeted room is serene and pretty; the service is very welcoming. Sesame scallops are cooked just so. Spicy basil chicken is a tad Thai, but quite tasty too. Shrimp and pork snuggle inside a sweet-n-spicy spring roll. Scallion pie is very Chinese and very delicious. And chocolate-dipped fortune cookies add a touch of whimsy.
