Cafe Gitane Restaurant Review:
It looks a little like the South of France crossed with South Beach, but Café Gitane is pure downtown. Lots of coffee and apéritif drinking transpires, with designer types and poseurs mixed in with neighborhood regulars wearing designer clothes and Sigerson Morrison shoes. And then there's the food. Appetizers like herbed goat cheese with chili flakes and pomegranate syrup precede entrées of Moroccan couscous, grilled eggplant and salmon potpie. Finish with a seasonal tart (try the lemon). Fresh mint tea and a teensy-bit eccentric but well-crafted wine list are available, too.
