Pots of fragrant lavender bushes mark the entrance to this sweet little takeout spot, located just around the corner from its big sister---the popular and cozy Italian restaurant Merenda. As the restaurant has only one table inside, the bountiful sandwiches, salads and picnic fixings can also be neatly packed up for a trip to Golden Gate Park or the nearby marina. First-rate focaccia sandwiches are stuffed with any combination from a long list of meats including delicate French ham, salami, rotisserie chicken and roasted turkey. Cheeses, both local and international, fill part of one huge deli case while the other case is loaded up with platters overflowing with haricot verts, potato salad, roasted peppers, roasted beets and leafy greens ready to be mixed and matched. Warm days guarantee big pitchers of lemonade and freshly squeezed juices, while on foggy days the cappuccino machine is kept busy. Don’t forget to peruse the glass jars perched atop the deli cases, which are filled with Italian candies, chocolates and biscotti.
