THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Caliza Grille Restaurant Review:
THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED Caliza Grille commands a prized position at the river level of The Westin Riverwalk hotel. Less trafficked than much of the sometimes-swarming waterway, this romantic reach is shaded by stately cypress trees, and to sit outside under inviting umbrellas is to experience the river’s microclimate at its best. A riverside lunch will find you choosing between the likes of ancho-seared salmon salad and a grilled, lamb-flank torta with seared poblanos and cilantro-lime aïoli. At night, the menu’s modern-Mexican moves are confined primarily to sauces and accompaniments such as huitlacoche vinaigrettes and tomato-pepita pestos. There is a trio of ceviches that includes a tequila-salmon variant, blue fin tuna comes anointed with mango-ginger relish and jalapeño “caviar”, and a goat cheese-stuffed chicken breast is accessorized with roasted posole-tomato relish and charred poblano tomatillo sauce. Some local products such as Texas quail with truffled peaches are offered, though to see a local diner in the setting would be rarer than the house’s Angus rib-eye with cracked pepper-whiskey jus.
