Cassis is housed in a Victorian building in historic Allegheny West. The very pretty setting combines references to a late nineteenth-century parlor with twentieth-century chic. The casual atmosphere emits a neighborhood vibe, intended to attract a regular local clientele along with destination diners. Owner/chef Dianne Porter---for many years a Morton’s bartender---describes her menu as “crazy comfort food.” The kitchen, manned by culinary school students, executes her recipes from 40 years of cooking for family and friends. Small plates dominate along with salads and sandwiches---including a quirky peanut butter and bacon on rye. There are daily soups, daily galettes and main course specials such as lamb stew or coq au vin blanc. Enjoy Happy Hour Tuesday through Friday.
