THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Century Diner Restaurant Review:

Solero’s Arturo Boada and partner Sharon Haynes call the menu of their new 24-hour downtown diner all-comfort, all the time. Such staples as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, flapjacks, meatloaf and macaroni and cheese support Boada’s proclamation that life’s too short not to eat good food. I have to show Houston some decent American food, says Boada, a native of Colombia, who has been here for 20 years. I can’t believe what you get here---frozen hamburger patties, thin little grilled cheese sandwiches. We mostly agree about the good quality of the hamburgers, chicken-fried steak, mashed potatoes, banana splits and milkshakes here, and give it extra credit for its tasteful, non-Happy Days ’50s design and its full bar. But some of the comfort foods, which are so because of their consistent lack of anything unusual, are a little heavy handed in the spices and herbs department, perhaps showing Boada’s South American roots a little too much.
