THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Chapin Restaurant Review:
Adding to the delectable line-up of neighborhood bistro-style dining establishments that now grace this intersection, Chapin is a newcomer to the area. Formerly at Cosí, chef-owner Juan Carlos Padilla, a native of Guatemala, has finally opened his dream establishment. He fairly glows with happiness and enthusiasm. The name he chose for the place is a local term for countryman. But his food is not Guatemalan; instead he goes toward the Mediterranean. Vegetarians will delight in the charbroiled vegetables with olive oil and a red pepper coulis offered as a salad, and plenty for a main dish. Theres also a vegetable risotto featuring artichokes, tomatoes, olives and fennel. Lunch is for pasta lovers although there are focaccia-based sandwiches, as well. But theres also is a good burger and prosciutto and goat cheese sandwich. Seafood is emphasized in the dinner entrée line-up, from mussels and calamari to Mediterranean fish soups, stews and seafood heavy paella. The wine list is a work in progress, small but decently selected and likely to grow as the customer base grows. Meanwhile, if you choose a good wine, you may enjoy it in very fine Stoelzle-Oberglas---an added amenity.
