Located in Harlem, this eatery will take you to the shores of Senegal, or at least evoke the feel of a fun trip when the whole grilled tilapia turns up on your table. It’s served with a side of your choice --- get the attiéké, grated and fermented cassava, a West African staple. For something heartier, the grilled lamb ribs are done just right. Not familiar with the food of this region? Save for a few of the aforementioned sides and the super spicy red and green sauce that accompanies dishes, the main courses are straightforward and satisfying. Service can be slow, so schedule enough time for a long-ish meal. Chez Jacob is BYO; bring your favorite bottle of wine and enjoy a meal with Harlem’s Senegalese diaspora. Cash only.
