THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Chinghalle Restaurant Review:

Chinghalle, the latest addition to the unlikely Gansevoort Street restaurant row, is the latest venture from chef Mark Strausman, who also owns the popular Italian restaurant Campagna. Though the name is a phonetic translation of the word for wild boar in Italian, the restaurant really has little to do with Italian food or wild game. Strausman has billed Chinghalle as something of a brasserie, but it really isn't that either. Rather, the menu reads like a hodgepodge of updated retro-dishes like salmon croquettes with Brussels sprout slaw, garlic bread, Waldorf crab salad, chicken à la Parmigiano, and London broil à la Diane. Though we were decidedly underwhelmed by everything we tried, especially the inexcusably bad fries, we liked the atmosphere. The booths are made from salvaged train benches, complete with luggage racks overhead.
