While Niman Ranch meat has disappeared from the menu of this neighborhood standby, the pleasant-enough hamburger joint still trims, grinds and hand-packs its own beef every day. Each patty is nicely seared, and paired with toppings that go far beyond just tomato and pickle. Think roasted green peppers, oven-dried tomatoes, salsa fresca and sage-cranberry sauce, all neatly tucked into a crusty kaiser roll. There's also a selection of "other" burgers, including turkey, lamb, salmon and vegetarian patties. Don't miss the irresistibly crispy hula-hoop onion rings or the flavorful (though under-salted) french fries dipped in chipotle aïoli.
