City Market, Luling, TX

City Market Restaurant Review

: Roll down your windows and let the aroma of smoldering mesquite guide you to this Lone Star State barbecue. Texans don't mess with a good thing, and this one's been smokin' steadily since 1958. Not to be confused with Luling City Market (actually in Houston), we’re talking about the original City Market located in tiny Luling (an hour south of Austin). City Market boasts an indoor pit and mesquite-burning aromas that never cease. Town locals mosey in first thing for breakfast. No, not for eggs, just for the sausage: all-beef with rib trimmings, well seasoned and never greasy. We also recommend the tender meaty ribs or the brisket, slapped between slices of white bread and drizzled with tart, slow-simmered sauce. We practice our patience here, since the line is always long and City Market just plumb runs out of food every day. Despite the deeply satisfying food, try to stay alert for celebrity sightings.
