Views over the City and top British cooking at Jason Atherton's sleek venue.
City Social Restaurant Review:
Jason Atherton is behind City Social, situated in what was Gary Rhodes 24th floor restaurant in Tower 42, with Paul Walsh (from Restaurant Gordon Ramsay) in charge. British ingredients are the main attractions, given a thoroughly modern twist. The menu is divided into starters that are uncooked (yellowfin tuna tataki, cucumber salad, radish, avocado and ponzu dressing) or cooked (roasted French quail, pancetta, parsnips, roscoff onions, oats and grains). Pasta and rice have their own category that you can order as small or large plates, while mains divide into the ever-popular grill, or the likes of marsh lamb fillet and lamb shoulder with bacon crumb and mint, or white Dover sole with caper gnocchi and a samphire and citrus sabayon. Desserts include chocolate soufflé with orange ice cream, or clementine parfait with almond cake and cranberry almond milk ice cream. Décor is sophisticated with dark wood floors, rosewood panelled walls, chrome and mirrors and smoked glass with a black-steel kitchen in the center of the room. But it's the view over the Square Mile that takes the prize.
