Cliff House Bistro Restaurant Review

: The landmark Cliff House features San Francisco's only oceanfront restaurants, the upscale Sutro's and the more relaxed Cliff House Bistro. Along with astounding views and a spiffy interior, the Bistro has one of the best clam chowders in town, a creamy but not-too-thick soup full of tender clams accented with bits of potato and celery and just a hint of tarragon. Other favorites include the crab Louis with seasonal fruit and the Ben Butler --- grilled Dungeness crab on sourdough topped with warm cheddar. For a red meat fix, try the half-pound cheeseburger on a soft grilled onion roll. Don't miss the fish 'n' chips, fresh local cod dipped in a proper beer batter and lightly fried until golden brown. A pile of piping-hot, thick-cut french fries and tangy malt vinegar are the perfect companions for the delicate, flaky nuggets of fish. Those with heartier appetites can dive into the cioppino. For breakfast, order the eggs San Francisco, two eggs with Dungeness crab meat, toasted sourdough bread and brandy cream sauce.
